১ জুলাই ২০১৫ বাংলাদেশকে নিম্ন আয়ের দেশ থেকে মধ্যম আয়ের দেশের তালিকায় উন্নীত করে আন্তর্জাতিক আর্থিক সংস্হা বিশ্বব্যাংক। মধ্যম আয়ের দেশগুলোকে দুটি শ্রেণিতে ভাগ করেছে বিশ্বব্যাংক, যথা: নিম্ন মধ্যম আয়ের দেশ ও উচ্চ মধ্যম আয়ের দেশ। সে অনুযায়ী বাংলাদেশ এখন পরিচিত হবে নিম্ন মধ্যম আয়ের দেশ হিসেবে।
